By BBN Staff: Denia Suyapa Ochoa, an employee of the Ministry of Health in Honduras has been arrested by Honduran authorities for kidnapping young women and bringing them to bars in Belize for prostitution.
According to Honduran newsline, El Nuevo Dia, Ochoa was arrested in San Pedro Sula, Honduras where she worked at the Health Ministry.
Ochoa carries charges of “trafficking in persons in the form of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.”
The Honduran authorities were carrying out their operation “Storm of Fire”, in its tenth stage, which envisages executing arrest warrants and dismantling networks of assailants and organized crime networks.
The country’s ombudsman office stated that Ochoa was dedicated to “capturing the victims so they could work in bars located in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye where they were sexually exploited and forced to perform forced labor.”
Ochoa was also transporting victims to San Pedro Sula from where they were traveling to Guatemala and then to Belize, the Honduran Prosecutor added.
Local authorities told the news line that sexual and labor exploitation are the main manifestations of human trafficking in Honduras, where that crime is punishable by more than 20 years in prison.
