Yesterday around 9:00 PM, police visited the Northern Regional Hospital where they observed the body of Amit Moryani, 37, a Belizean shopkeeper of Cemetery Street, Orange Walk Town suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper left side of his chest.
Police investigation reveals that around 8:50 PM, Moryani was inside his family store -P&P Supermarket located on Cemetery Street, Orange Walk Town along with his mother Babita Moryani when two masked men entered the store.
One of the men approached Babita from behind and took away her bag containing $300 in cash. While attempting to help his mother, the other male person pointed at Amit and fired two shots hitting him to the chest and grazing his mother to the right side of her head.
Amit was pronounced dead at 9:52 PM.
His body now lies at the morgue at the Northern Regional Hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.
Police are investigating.
