Accident near mile 5 on George Price highway

By BBN Staff: One person was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) after an accident around 7:00 this morning on the George Price highway between miles 5 and 6 involving a small four door car and a Unicomer truck.

The car and the truck collided causing the car to careen  off the shoulder of the road into a ditch a distance away from the nearby Puma gas station. The driver was reportedly trapped in the car but was freed and rushed to the hospital. The accident also caused traffic to back up on the road, which is currently undergoing repairs after recent rains caused damage.

The area from mile 5 after Old Belize to the 6-mile curve, because of the ongoing repairs, is coated with loose gravel. It is not yet known if this may have contributed to the accident but it appears based on pictures from the scene that there were no signs to alert drivers of the loose gravel.
