Belmopan man acquitted of murder

By BBN Staff: Belmopan resident, George Hyde, 36, has been acquitted of the December 2013 murder of Canadian national Keith Haslam, 69.

Hyde, on Monday, appeared before Justice Antoinette Moore.

The prosecution, led by Senior Crown Counsel, Cecil Ramirez, relied on a caution statement and two oral confessions from Hyde.

However, those statements were inadmissible as the methods used to attain them was in violation of the Evidence Act.

Hyde was promised if he confessed to the crime, his girlfriend would not have been charged. Hyde’s lawyer, Leroy Banner, drove this point home.

And so the case fell apart after the prosecution had no other evidence against Hyde.
