Police shoots man in domestic argument

By Zoila Palma: Yesterday morning around 10:45, Ladyville police responded to a report of a domestic nature in the Milpa Area of Ladyville Village, Belize District.

When police arrived, they met Leon Usher, 36, of Milpa Area Ladyville and Tiffara Tillett.

Tillett reported to authorities that she wanted to leave the house, however, Usher was preventing her from leaving.

Usher then became aggressive to the police officers, making threats, and stating that no one will remove him from his house, and if police made any attempts, he was ready to kill and be killed.

Police removed Tillett along with some personal belongings and whilst in the process, Usher approached a police officer and made attempts to take away Tillett’s personal belongings in an aggressive manner.

Usher then faced one of the officers saying that nobody will leave alive and as a result, he jumped on the officer and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, Usher attempted to take the officer’s firearm which was holstered to his waist, however, the officer held the gun first and fired a single shot at Usher which caught him to the left knee.

He was subdued and taken for medical treatment.

A criminal and internal investigation has been initiated.

Usher remains guarded at the KHMH pending charges.
