By BBN Staff: Last week, BBN reported that a Honduran National was busted in her home country for human trafficking.
Denia Suyapa Ochoa, a Ministry of Health employee in San Pedro Sula, Honduras was arrested for bringing young women from Honduras to San Pedro, Belize for prostitution.
According to reports, Ochoa transported the victims via a ferry from Honduras to Guatemala and then to Belize.
The Belize Police Department has since been working closely with their counterparts in Honduras and Guatemala on this matter.
This week, Belizean authorities found thirty two young women from Honduras and Salvador in Belize illegally.
At yesterday’s press briefing, Assistant Superintendent, Alejandro Cowo told the media that the Immigration Department and the Police Department were working together on the matter and stated that no charges have been brought against the women as yet.
