Chinese man arrested and charged for falsifying documents

A Taiwanese/ Belizean and a Chinese man appeared in court yesterday for falsifying immigration documents.

The men pled guilty to the charge.

They were detained on Monday when the Chinese man was attempting to apply for a social security card in Belmopan with a fake Nationality Certificate.

The staff at the Social Security Board in Belmopan alerted immigration officials and police who swiftly detained them.

On Wednesday, the men met a fine of $1000 each.

Zheng Yuanran appeared yesterday in court again for offenses under the Social Security Board Act. He pled guilty and was fined $800.

His translator, Zheng Hui Lin is also suspected to be involved in other cases of falsification of documents.

Assistant Supertintendent Alejandro Cowo told the media that the Belize Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is involved in the ongoing investigation.

Zheng Yuanran is still in police custody awaiting an order of expulsion from Belize.
