By BBN Staff: Yuanran Zheng, the Chinese national busted trying to obtain a Social Security card last week using a fake nationality certificate, has left Belize after he was issued an Order to Leave by the Immigration Department on Thursday.
According to reports, he left the country and flew to Canada because he wanted to avoid legal trouble in the US. After initially pleading not guilty in Magistrates Court, Zheng changed his plea to guilty and paid an $800 fine.
Zheng reportedly arrived in Belize last Sunday and was able to obtain the fake nationality certificate in one day. He, along with his Taiwanese-Belizean translator Zheng Hui Lin, were detained after Social Security officials noticed the suspicious nationality certificate and contacted to Immigration Department to confirm the authenticity of the document.
Immigration officials and police later became involved in the investigation. According to Channel 7 News, Zheng disclosed names and information about the immigration hustle before leaving the country. Police also reportedly found copies of a Social Security card at Lin’s house in Camalote.
