By BBN Staff: Three police officers attached to the Southern Formation of the Belize Police Department are under investigation after accusations that they gang-raped two women at the police station.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette, confirmed that there is a joint investigation being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB)and the Professional Standards Branch, into the allegations.
“As a consequence of the stage the investigation is in, I would not want to prejudice the investigation, so that is as far as I will say on that matter,” Myvette added.
Reports are that police took the alleged victims, one Belizean and the other a Salvadoran, to the station to perform a search for drugs on the night of Friday, November 10. The officers then reportedly stripped the women of their clothes and gang-raped them.
The department has promised that it will share “the appropriate information” once the investigation has ended.
