Mendoza told police that upon reaching miles 77 on the Philip Goldson Highway while he was heading to Corozal Town, the vehicle started to experience mechanical problem so they pulled off the road to check the vehicle’s engine.
Mendoza said that while he was checking the engine, an unknown man held a machete to his neck and demanded cash.
He was then escorted to the front passenger door and was lashed to the back with the machete by the assailant who made further threat to chop him.
The assailant proceeded to rob Castillo of his telcel brand cellular phone, and at that point, Castillo handed over the grey Jordan school bag containing $8,667.66 that belonged to the school’s cafeteria.
Police are investigating.
