Chief Meteorologist attends 57th Session of Caribbean Meteorological Council

Posted: Saturday, November 25, 2017. 8:34 am CST.

BBN Staff: Belize’s Chief Meteorologist, Catherine Cumberbatch, returned earlier this week from Antigua, West Indies, where she attended the 57th Session of the Caribbean Meteorological Council.

The Caribbean Meteorological Council meets once a year, usually in a different member state. Prior to the meeting of the Council, there is a two-day meeting of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), followed by a one-day meeting of the Heads of National Meteorological Services.

At the meeting of the Heads of the Meteorological Services, they discuss the impacts of the preceding hurricane or rainy season on their operations and their countries.

The principal of the CIMH provides a report on the training activities of the institution during the preceding year. The heads hold detailed technical discussions on changes to their operations based on changes implemented by international organizations.

This year, the meetings took place from November 13th to 17th, 2017 in St John’s, Antigua.
