VIP says Belize Bank and law firm close to PM Barrow must be investigated

Posted: Friday, December 1, 2017. 1:36 pm CST.

BBN Staff: The Vision Inspired by the People (VIP) has joined in on the condemnation of the Barrow administration which had on Wednesday made a case to deny payment to the Belize Bank for the recent 90 million dollar judgement.

According to the VIP, the failure to make the payment will only increase the burden of the Belizean people. According to the VIP, Belize must respect and uphold the rule of law by its highest court and warns that when the law is wantonly broken, dictatorship and chaos is in near proximity.

The VIP adds that the international community will not stand idly by and allow Belize to dismiss the CCJ’s ruling without acting, “in ingenious ways to force Belize to respect the principle of legal certainty.”

The VIP is urging the Barrow administration to instead of disrespecting the CCJ to instead make a peaceful arrangement with the Belize Bank. At the end of its statement, the VIP notes that the there is a conflict of interest since the law firm which the Prime Minister has interest in continues to make representation on behalf of the Belize Bank.

According to the VIP, this must be investigated by a competent authority.
