NTUCB tells PM to pay up

Posted: Wednesday, December 6, 2017. 10:53 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) over the weekend issued a release stating that the $90.6 million UHS bill should be paid in installments.

The NTUCB had been critical of the Musa administration in 2007, condemning and demanding that the government not use public funds to pay off Universal Hospital’s private debt.

The Congress says that the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is the final Court of Appeal and that in consideration of this huge debt and the state of our country’s finances, the Government makes payments to the Belize Bank in installments over a projected period until the debt is fully satisfied.

The Belize Chamber of Commerce has said that government should pay the debt.

However, several UDP parliamentarians including Prime Minister Dean Barrow have publicly said that this administration will not pay.
