By BBN Staff: Former United Democratic Party Standard Bearer Marilyn Williams is to be sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court next year, a decision that Prime Minister Dean Barrow says he didn’t make.
Barrow explained on Friday that Williams was selected through a democratic process, led by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. The commission, chaired by Chief Justice Keneth Benjamin, advertised the post locally and to regionally, then reviewed the applications and made their selection.
Barrow said that he was informed the commission advertised the post because it needs two additional judges for the Supreme Court.
Williams was selected over Sydney Fuller to run for the Albert Division in 2003, and also held the post as the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit.
