BEL plans to retain electricity rates

Posted: Wednesday, December 13, 2017. 9:20 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) issued a press release yesterday stating that it is not planning to increase electricity rates.

On Friday, December 8, BEL made a submission to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) proposing to keep the Mean Electricity Rate at $0.3692, or just about 37 cents per kilowatt hour up until June 30, 2018.

BEL says it expects that the cost of power for the first six months of 2018 be lower than the PUC’s projections.

The PUC will make the final determination.
