By BBN Staff: On Tuesday, a fatal explosion shook residents in Santa Cruz, Santa Elena.
Residents have been querying who will compensate them for the damages to their homes and vehicles.
Belize Roadway Construction, the company that was awarded the contract to rehabilitate a portion of the George Price highway in Santa Elena town had sub-contracted Tiger Agreggates to do the blasting at the quarry.
The blasting injured many residents, destroyed a few homes, and damaged several other houses and vehicles.
Attorney for Roadway, Rachel Montejo told the media that the company will assist residents with funds for their repairs.
Montejo told 7News that the company will try to mitigate losses to residents who were in the immediate vicinity and that the company is accepting liability.
Residents affected are advised to visit Montejo’s office in Unitedville village.
