By BBN Staff: Commercial Fisherfolk License Renewal
The Belize Fisheries Department yesterday informed that it will commence the renewal of fisherfolk licenses on January 3, 2018.
A grace period for renewals will be in place until January 31, 2018.
Fishers are advised to bring along all pertinent documents upon renewal to facilitate the process.
Belize City
03rd January – 05th January
29th January – 31st January
Sarteneja, Copper Bank, Chunox – all fishers from Corozal & Orange Walk Districts
08th January – 12th January
Hopkins & Dangriga
15th January – 19th January
San Pedro & Caye Caulker
22nd January – 26th January
Kindly note that Punta Gorda (and surrounding communities), Monkey River, Independence, Riversdale, Seine Bight & Placencia are asked to renew ONLY at the Punta Gorda Fisheries Department Office from 03rd January – 31st January, 2018.
Applications for these communities will not be accepted at the Belize City office.
Requirements for renewals
a) Fishers must submit their ORIGINAL expired fisher folk license.
b) Fishers must present the ORIGINAL AND COPY of their valid Social Security Card, valid Passport or Voters I.D.
c) Each fisher must present a utility bill which must be in the fisher’s name or otherwise authorized from the utility bill holder/landlord and signed and sealed by a Justice of the Peace (JP). If the fisher does not have access to utilities and thus to utility bills then a letter from a JP certifying their address is needed.
d) Fishers must fill and sign a Fisherfolk RENEWAL application form.

Note:
*Naturalized Belizeans must present Nationality documents. *No exceptions will be made for incomplete documentation. * No permits will be issued to minors.
In case of loss of Fisherfolk and/or Vessel license, the fisher must present the receipt issued by the Police Department or the report stating the loss of the license (Fisher Folk and/or Vessel license).
Commercial Fishing Vessel License
Commercial Fishing Vessel owners are hereby reminded that vessels must comply with the requirements under the VESSEL COLOR CODING SCHEME and the CATCH DATA SUBMISSION requirements under the Managed Access program.
Vessel license requirements for renewals
a) Fishers must submit their ORIGINAL expired vessel license
b) Owner or master of the vessel must present ORIGINAL valid commercial Fisher Folk license. If the master of the vessel (Captain) is not the owner of the vessel, an authorization from the owner, signed and sealed by a Justice of the Peace must be presented in order to renew the vessel license.
c) Must present ORIGINAL AND COPY of the vessel’s valid Sea Worthy Certificate issued by the Belize Port Authority.
d) Fishers must fill and sign a vessel RENEWAL application form.
N.B.
1. No further Issuance of licenses will be done after March 31st, 2018.
2. Application for NEW LICENSES will be received from January 03rd to January 31st and will be processed starting February 1st, 2018.
3. The licensing section is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday (on regular working days).
