By BBN Staff: This week, 40 boys and girls from Belmopan are being offered swimming lessons courtesy Belmopan police.
Officer commanding Belmopan, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett and his formation are hosting the training sessions.
Gillett said the activity is for children to value team work: “We are optimistic that the safety of these young people will improve, they will value team work, they will value outdoor activities over sedentary activities such as staying indoors on an electronic device and they will be better able to engage in aquatic recreational activities with families and friends. “
Gillett also shared that the children will learn important lessons in saving lives during perilous situations like in a storm or hurricane.
Gillett thanked the Belize Coast Guard for their technical support, giving special mention to Commander, Rear Admiral John Borland for his continuous support.
He also thanked, John Carr of Banana Bank Lodge who donated the use of his pool at no cost to the Belmopan police for the training.
Gillett said that he and his formation will continue to engage young people in positive activities for the benefit of the community.
