Alleged drug runners out on bail

By BBN Staff: Peter Schmidt and Carlos Lopez, the two men caught with 11 pounds of cocaine and an unlicensed firearm earlier this week, are out on bail valued at $100,000.

Their attorneys, Oscar Selgado and  Ellis Arnold, made bail applications yesterday before Justice Adolf Lucas, who granted both men bail but with conditions for each.

The court required that Lopez surrender all his travel documents while Schmidt, who has no travel documents, is prohibited from applying for any. Both men are to report to the police station nearest their homes, Caye Caulker and Ladyville, every Friday.

Police apprehended the men on Sunday, December 17 at a checkpoint in Buttonwood Bay, after searching their vehicle and finding 5.7 kilos of cocaine and an unlicensed 9 mm pistol with 11 live rounds. They are scheduled to reappear in court on March 8, 2018.
