In an interview with Channel 7 News, Faber said that he was not present when the Cabinet sub-committee on investment met to discuss Jaen, but he is sure that they did their due diligence before selecting him.
Faber noted that since he was not in the country, Minister of State Tracy Panton, who heads the sub-committee would be able to speak on the level of background checks done on Jaen, but that the committee has his support. He also said that those discussing Jaen’s criminal past are likely just trying to make mischief.
On December 13, GOB signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jaen’s company International Airport Alliance Belize, which was later found to have no experience in airport development, and despite being a company formed in 2016, has no website.
Jaen himself also has a questionable past, with previous convictions for voter fraud, and making false representations to a dealership to get a car loan.
