ed States, the President of Guatemala, Jimmy Morales, announced that his country will be moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.Guatemalan Foreign Minister Sandra Jovel, said that the country’s decision was final, despite concerns raised by other countries that the move may be counterproductive to peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel in their territorial dispute over the city.
Guatemala, a traditional ally to the United States was one of only nine countries that voted to uphold the US decision at the United Nations, while 128 other countries voted to render the decision null and void.
Following the vote at the United Nations, the US announced that it would be making fewer contributions to the UN’s management and support functions. US envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley also announced that US congress has successfully negotiated a $285 million reduction in its 2018/2019 budget.
