Police issue update on cocaine bust at northern border

By BBN Staff: Today, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette informed that police is in the process of charging Robert Gentle for the cocaine bust that occurred on December 13, 2017 at the northern border.

Corozal police were called out to the Belize Customs Cargo area on that date and saw a cream Lincoln Navigator SUV. The SUV had crashed into a metal post at the entrance of the gate.

Police investigations revealed that the vehicle was occupied by a person who attempted to cross into Mexico and while going through the scanner, Mexican authorities detected something hidden in the dash board.

Authorities then informed the driver that they would conduct a search on the vehicle but the driver sped off back to Belize. He was pursued by Mexican authorities and he collided into the gate at the Belize Customs Cargo area. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and made good his escape.

When police searched the vehicle, they found six parcels of cocaine totaling 6,328 grams.
