Posted: Wednesday, January 3, 2018. 8:56 am CST.

BBN Staff: The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) handed out gift hampers to the parents of the first children born in 2018.

The first baby of 2018 was a girl born at 12:52 a.m. to Arlene Burgess, weighing eight pounds, 12 ounces. Burgess told the media at the handing over ceremony that she has not officially named the child but is considering the name Jasmine.

The first boy of 2018 was born at 4:39 a.m. to Elizabeth Castillo, weighing in at seven pounds, 10 ounces. Castillo did not have a name for the child that she could share.

Both mothers received hampers containing a month of supplies including papers, Ovaltine, sanitary pads, wipes and other items to help with the first month of parenting. Private sector partners of the KHMH such as Brodies and San Cas Limited donated the hampers.

San Cas also announced that it will also be giving hampers to the first children born in 2018 for each district.
