By BBN Staff: According to a report from the Reporter Newspaper, documents which allegedly depict transactions from government’s Smart Stream system, show that Barrow and Company, the law-firm owned by the Prime Minister’s brother, Denys, was paid over $5 million for legal services provided to GOB in 2017.
According to the report, the supposed screenshots show 23 transactions of payments to Barrow and Company, however, two were apparently canceled and two others were reportedly payments made in 2016. Of the remaining transactions made in 2017, Barrow and Company was paid a total sum of $5.3 million.
The images show seven payments to the firm for Land Aquisitions for the Ministry of Natural Resources. One payment on October 25, 2017 was for as much as $316,397. The rest of payments were for legal services provided to the Ministry of Finance. One payment dated May 5, 2017 showed a payment made to Barrow and Company for a sum of $1.5 million.
There were also two payments labeled “MOF-ARBITRATION”, which were for $400,000 each.
The report adds that Financial Secretary Joseph Waight could not be reached to verify the credibility of the documents and Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte could not be reach to clarify how government assigns cases to private firms.
