Commission of Inquiry coming for UHS

35238">By BBN Staff : Prime Minister Dean Barrow has announced that a Commission of Inquiry will be appointed to look into the Universal Health Services (UHS) saga.

On Friday, Barrow explained that he is only waiting for feedback from the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB) to proceed.

Barrow also asserted that appointing the commission is confirmed and that the only thing left to approve is the draft of terms of references.

The PM said he is hoping the commission finds out how money granted to Belize by Taiwan and Venezuela were used to pay the UHS debt. “How it is that the Venezuela money, which was eventually clawed back, was paid? How come when that happened, there appeared to have been a point at which the debt was cleared off? I’m not certain whether they are after the government putting itself back on the hook because it wishes to provide working capital,” Barrow said.

 He also explained that Belizeans want answers to these questions and how the government has nothing to show for UHS.
