Tsunami warnings issued for Caribbean including Belize

By BBN Staff: The United States Tsunami Warning Center has just issued a warning that hazardous tsunami waves are possible within 621 miles (1,000 km) of the quake’s epicenter.

The area includes coastal areas of Jamaica, Mexico, Cuba, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Cayman Islands, Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

According to the US Geological Survey, tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meters above tide level are possible for coasts of Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Cayman Islands and Jamaica.

Residents are warned to move away from the coast and seek higher grounds immediately.
