By BBN Staff: On Wednesday, January 24, around 1:15 p.m., Belize city police visited the first floor of a three story building on Plues Street and saw the lifeless body of a man identified as Darwin Dwayne Simon Velasquez, 24, with an apparent gunshot wound to the lower side of his back.
Police investigations revealed that around 1:10 p.m., while Velasquez was walking on George street with a woman, a gunman attacked him from behind. A struggle ensued between Velasquez and the perpetrator.
Velasquez escaped and ran towards the direction of Plues Street, but he was followed by the gunman who opened fire. Velasquez ran inside a residence on Plues Street where he collapsed and died.
Velasquez’s body was transported to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at the morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating.
