By BBN Staff: On January 15, Gaynor Flowers, 37, a finance officer for the Attorney General’s Office/Magistrates Court reported that while conducting an internal audit at the Dangriga Magistrates Court, she found discrepancy with two receipts.
One receipt was for a payment made on the 16 of August, 2016 for $300.
The receipt was signed and stamped by Janay Ciego, who is the cashier at the Dangriga Magistrate court.
A further investigation revealed that only $2.50 cents was paid into the Treasury Department using the specific receipt number.
She also found that on July 20, 2016, a payment of $4000 was made at the Dangriga Magistrate Court where a government receipt was issued, signed and stamped by Janay Ciego.
Further inquiries revealed that only $4.00 was paid into the Treasury Department using the specific receipt number.
The funds from both transactions could not be accounted for.
As a result, police arrested and charged Janay Ciego,32, with two counts of theft.
