Belmopan Youths visit prison

Posted: Tuesday, January 30, 2018. 3:51 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Today, the Belmopan police formation took 20 young persons from that jurisdiction to gain first-hand experience of what life is like in prison.

Officer Commanding Belmopan Police, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett said that the visit was meant to bring awareness to young people and to discourage them from committing crime by seeing what it is like to be barred from freedom: “We are hopeful with today’s visit and the great close up interaction and the speeches delivered by the inmates will help to ward off these young people from wanting to go to prison as an inmate.”

Gillett told us that his formation plans to continue engaging at risk youths so as to have them become productive members of society.

Gillett says that their community policing programs continue to make an effect in the lives of many young people.
