Data collected by our newsroom puts the murder count for January at 16, which is a record breaking figure.
On Thursday the murder count was pushed to 13 with the murder of San Pedro resident, Simeon Velasquez.
On Friday night Gavin Palmerston was stabbed dead in Ladyville as a result of a love triangle turned deadly.
Early Saturday morning, Hattieville resident Jermaine Hyde was shot dead on Belize City’s southside.
His murder has puzzled investigators since he was reportedly a hard working family man unknown to police.
Miguel Angel Guerrero was found with his throat slit early Monday morning in Dangriga.
The total murder count is now 16.
Last year the murder count for January was 9.
In 2016 for this same period there were 12 murders.
While addressing the murder problem in a press conference last week Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, had indicated that there would be more officers deployed in light of the increase in murders.
