NICH officially confirms two Belizean rangers missing

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, BBN reported that two Belizean rangers went missing after going out for a routine check at the Caracol Archeological Reserve in the Cayo District.

This morning, NICH issued a statement informing that two rangers have been officially declared missing in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve .

Late Monday evening, Park Manager Luis Ramirez and Park Ranger Elroy Villanueva went on an existing trail and did not return.

The statement said that after noticing their prolonged absence, the remaining rangers headed towards existing campsites in search of the men and alerted the BDF.

In an effort to continue the search, a team which included the BDF, Tourism Police and staff of the Institute of Archaeology were assigned to search the reserve area.
