By BBN Staff: The brutal murder of sisters, Josephine and Crecencia Oh shocked the Mayan community in Toledo.
The Mayan community has organized a march for Justice to be held tomorrow in San Jose and San Antonio villages, Toledo.
Today, the Maya Leaders Alliance (MLA) and the Toledo Alcalde Association (TAA) issued a release joining the cause.
The MLA and TAA applaud the efforts of the Police Department that has led to the arrest of a suspect.
“We continue to point out that if the authorities are to properly carry out their responsibilities under the laws, we the population must provide the necessary information and cooperation. We applaud the cooperation of our communities with the law enforcement authorities in the investigation of this gruesome crime. We reiterate that the safety of our people is foremost the duty and responsibility of each of us in our respective communities,” the release explains.
The organizations say that the arrest of a suspect is not the end of the fight against such an intolerable act of crime and they will follow through the prosecution of the case to send a clear message that the community will not tolerate these crimes.
The TAA calls upon its Alcaldes, village police, community leaders and villagers to join the march.
Alcaldes can contact 662-1663 for transportation information.
“We must protect the legacy of our communities as peaceful and collective. We have enjoyed such peace not by chance but as a result of being on the frontline of ensuring that we live as respectful and caring people. We remind our people to be the defender of each other. We need to care for our sons, daughters, mothers, fathers and Elders. This is our way of building and enjoying peaceful living,” it ends.
