A new playground for St. John’s Anglican

Posted: Wednesday, February 14, 2018. 5:15 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The 200 students at St. John’s Anglican Primary School now have a better place to play, following the donation of a new playground today by the Rotary Club of Alberta Canada.

The playground forms a part of a larger collaboration for the rotary club with the organization Literacy Without Borders, which has built several playgrounds in Belize City School including St. John Vianney R.C. School and Queen Square Primary.

Rod Carrias, chairman of the international service committee of the Rotary Club of Alberta, said that the playground has a monetary value of around BZ $200,000 but even a greater value to the children that get to use it.

Darlene Belgrave, principal of the school, said that the teachers will be taking time to teach the students about proper use of the playground to ensure its longevity, as well as to avoid injury. Belgrave said that the school has already made changes to its daily processes in terms of how the bell rings after recess, to accommodate for the new playground. She noted that the area where the playground now occupies was just an open space in the schoolyard.
