Police officer charged for losing gun which ended up in hands of criminal

On Saturday morning, Orange Walk police searched a suspect who was seen throwing away a .38 special revolver away and before running from police.

Police took the gun and checked the serial number, which confirmed that it was assigned to a police officer from Cayo.

The corporal has been charged for ‘prejudice to good order’ and ‘losing the weapon’.

The name of the corporal has not been disclosed since he was charged internally.

According to police, the officer was placed on disciplinary probation. He plead guilty to the charge and was fined the maximum of $200. Police say he was severely reprimanded and ordered to pay compensation of $1500 to government to cover the cost of replacing the firearm.
