Tourist alleges rape by chaperone

By BBN Staff: A tourist visiting San Pedro reported to police that she was raped by a man who was supposed to be looking out for her.

The 25-year-old visitor from the United States reported that she was staying with a family in San Pedro when her chaperone raped her in her sleep. She reported that she was socializing with a group and asked to be taken home because she’d had too much to drink. She tried to sleep off her intoxication when the assault happened.

Police have reportedly detained her attacker and are preparing to lay charges after an identification parade. The incident marks the first reported case of rape for 2018. The police department’s crimes comparative statistics, released last month, had shown a reduction in the number of rape cases from 23 to 22 between 2016 and 2017.
