Ranchito Government School in Corozal gets new building

Posted: Thursday, February 22, 2018. 8:41 am CST.

By BBN Staff: A ceremony to inaugurate Ranchito’s Primary School new building will be held on the school’s compound in Ranchito Village, Corozal District at 10:00 a.m. today.

The Government of Belize (GOB) funded the completion of the new 8 classroom two storey, ferro-concrete building as well as the rehabilitation of an existing classroom building that houses three primary level classrooms and pre-school classroom courtesy of a grant of $1.1 million from the Caribbean Development Bank.

The school project is aimed at increasing access and providing enhanced quality education for students in a more conducive learning environment as well as to enable the school to address the increasing demand for enrollment and over-crowding.

The project was implemented by the Social Investment Fund (SIF), an implementing agency of GOB which addresses the basic needs of Belizeans as enshrined in Government’s policy to alleviate poverty in the area of education, water, sanitation, health, human development and social transformation.

In addition to infrastructure development, teachers and parents were trained in multiple disciplines such as Information Technology, First Aid, and Parenting Skills Training under the Human Development Sector.

GOB also donated 9 computers for use by the staff, a surveillance system for classrooms, and, laptops, risograph, photocopier, and 20 boxes of typing sheets.

The new building will also serve as a disaster shelter for Ranchito Villagers.
