By BBN Staff:  Voter re-registration is set to take place on the 1st of July, according to Elections and Boundaries, Registering Officer Brendalyn Staine in an interview with Love News.

The last voter re-registration took place 21 years ago. Entities including the People’s United Party (PUP), the Belize Progressive Party (BPP), and Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action (COLA) among others, have been clamoring for a new re-registration process to take place for some time. The organizations calling publicly for the process to take place had initially requested that the re-registration process be done before the upcoming March 7 municipal elections.

The organizations claimed that the process was necessary to validate voters lists, which they claimed have been compromised.

Staine told Love News that the date has been set for July 1st and said that the Election and Boundaries Department will be conducting an educational campaign to educate voters on the re-registration process since it has been 21 years since the last such exercise.
