Orange Walk man dies in fatal road traffic accident this morning

BBN Staff: This morning around 3:30, police responded to a road traffic accident at Camp one on Shipyard Village, Orange Walk District and upon arrival, they observed a white dodge caravan crashed into a tree with the front portion damaged.

No one was seen inside the van at the time, so police officers made checks at the Northern Regional Hospital where they found out that Silvan Mencias, 19, of August Pine Ridge was involved in the accident and succumbed to his injuries.

Further investigation revealed that Alvin Reneau, 25, also of August Pine Ridge was driving the van from Guinea Grass Village towards Shipyard when he lost control of the van and crashed into some trees that resulted in Mencias who was seated in the passenger seat receiving injuries to his head.

Police say that 4 other persons were inside the van who sustained minor injuries and have been treated and released from the hospital.

Police investigating continues.
