By BBN Staff:  Today, the Belmopan Police formation recognized two police officers for doing great work in the first two months of 2018.

Belmopan police also recognized a civilian for doing outstanding work in the community last year.

For January 2018, Pc #743, Javier Alvarez was recognized for being the Officer of the Month, while Pc # 1468, Durham Gonzalez was recognized for  being the Officer of the Month in February.

Businessman Joe Mena was recognized for being an outstanding member of the community throughout 2017.

Mena’s contributions and strong support to the Belmopan Police made him deserving for this recognition.

The recipients of the award had a meal with Officer Commanding Belmopan Police, Howell Gillett, Deputy Officer commanding, Santiago Pott, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Noel Leal.

Officer Commanding Belmopan Police, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett, informed that when officers do wrong, they must be penalized and when they excel, they must be commended. “When it’s time to punish officers for wrongdoings, we are very swift and stiff and in similar fashion when officers excel, we are swift and generous. It is this practice that might be responsible for the low incidents of police abuse in the Belmopan area,” Gillett said.

Gillett also stated that he is hopeful that by commending officers, it will encourage other officers to excel and go beyond their call of duty to serve the country.
