2 dead after ‘horrific’ crash on Southern Highway

Last night around 8:15, police responded to reports of a fatal traffic accident between miles 32 and 33 on the Southern Highway.

Police went to the location near the Red Bank Village junction and saw two vehicles, a red Astro Van and an orange Great Wall Wingle, both extensively damaged to the front.

Police investigation revealed that the Astro van was driven by James Andrews, 42, of Independence Village.

Andrews was travelling from independence towards San Juan village.

The driver of the Wingle was Michael Martinez, of Santa Cruz Village.

Both vehicles collided head on.

Martinez and Andrews sustained major head and body injuries and died on the spot.

Two passengers travelling with Martinez; Harvey Galisha and Rogelio Lopez received minor injuries and were transported to the Southern Regional Hospital.

The bodies of Martinez and Andrews were transported to the morgue at the Southern Regional Hospital.

Police investigation continues.
