By BBN Staff: The government of Belize, through the Ministry of Works, announced today that it has signed two contracts for rehabilitation works on the George Price highway between the city of Belmopan and Blackman Eddy village.
The rehabilitation is funded through a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank, grant funding from the European Union – Caribbean Investment Facility (CIF) and the government of Belize.
The scope of the works include the construction of a new bridge in Roaring Creek and rehabilitation works along the route including the replacement of culverts, construction of new drains, paving, signage as well as earthworks including transporting, placing and compacting.
“All these works require the use of heavy construction equipment and workmen on site. The Ministry of Works is committed to keeping the highway safe and passable during this time and therefore asks the public to please exercise extreme caution when approaching and driving between Roaring Creek and Blackman Eddy villages,” the Ministry said.
The MOW highlighted specifically the area between miles 51 and 55, and urged motorists to allow for extra time to reach destinations when traveling through the construction area. The Ministry pleaded with drivers to reduce their speed in the construction zones and apologized for any inconvenience caused for the project duration, which is an estimated three months.
