NICH wins first lap of La Ruta Maya Race

By BBN Staff: La Ruta Maya Canoe Race kicked off this morning from the Macal River in San Ignacio Town, Cayo.

The first day of the event was well attended by many Belizeans from around the country.

Fifty three teams entered the competition and made their way to the first stop at Banana Bank.

The National Culture and History Team (NICH) won the first leg of the race.

Tomorrow is day 2 of the race and it will go from Banana Bank Lodge to Double Head Cabbage.

On Day 3, the race goes from Double Head Cabbage to Burrell Boom, and on Day 4, the race goes from Burrell Boom and culminates in Belize City.

The annual event is one of the many cultural celebrations of Belize’s melting pot of cultures.
