The meeting was headed by the Commissioners of both countries, the Ambassador of Belize in Guatemala H.E. Alexis Rosado and the Ambassador of Guatemala in Belize H.E. Georges de La Roche, as well as Katalina Montana, designated by Manuel Washington Abdala, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the OAS for the Belize-Guatemala issue.
The meeting took place as a follow-up from the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Belize and Guatemala on February 27, in the joint visit made to the Office of the OAS in the Adjacency Zone.
The Joint Commission reviewed the earlier progress regarding the bilateral agreements signed in 2014 and agreed that the internal coordination will be carried out with their respective authorities, in order to speed up the implementation of those agreements.
The Commission also prioritized areas of common interest for mutual benefit and identified pending issues in the bilateral relationship.
They further agreed to establish a road-map for the Joint Commission for the current year including indicators to measure progress.
The Joint Commission will meet again in April 2018.
