Howell Gillett to take over Southside Belize City

BBN Staff: Reports to BBN is that officer commanding Belmopan Police, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett is now the Commander of Belize’s Southside division.

Gillett takes over the post  from Senior Superintendent Mark Vidal. Vidal served as Commander for the Southside for 8 months.

Gillett said on his Facebook page that he is taking over the position ‘with pride, honor and great hope and that with the help of Jehovah God, support from the public, and dedicated officers, [they] will win the fight against crime.’

The announcement comes at a time when crime and violence have been on a dramatic spike in the old capital.

Gillett thanked everyone for the opportunity to lead the Southside of Belize City as the new commander.
