By BBN Staff; A retired American tourist, Phyllis Jean Ewing, 70, died yesterday afternoon after experiencing difficulties underwater while she and her husband were on a dive tour at Gallos Island which is approximately 8 miles off the coast of Belize City.
According to authorities, Phyllis and her husband, Alexander Carpenter Ewing were on a scuba diving tour with Sea Sport Belize Tour when she started to have breathing problems.
She was immediately removed from the water and transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where she was pronounced dead on arrival. There were no signs of violence observed on the body. Foul play is not suspected.
