By BBN Staff; There has been a major re-shuffling of police senior command, according to a report from Channel 7 News.
The changes will reportedly take effect on Monday. Most notably, Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal, the Eastern Division’s South side Commander is being re-assigned to the Special Branch headquarter in Belmopan after a seven month stint in Belize city which recently reached a peak in violence perpetrated on children.
It is believed the recent UDP loss in Belize city played a role in the sudden re-shuffling. Senior Superintendent, Howell Gillett will take Vidal’s place on Belize city’s South side. Gillett, unlike his predecessor, is known for a softer, community-based approach. Under his command, the Belmopan jurisdiction has become known for good community relations, quick response and arrest times, and feeding and after school programs for children.
Among other changes made, ACP Chester Williams has gotten a big promotion and becomes the new Deputy Commissioner, second only to Commissioner Allen Whylie. With the new position, Williams will oversee all operational units. ACP Edward Broaster was also promoted to Deputy but of Administrative affairs.
The Eastern Division Commander, ACP Dezeree Phillips is being moved to police headquarters to take up the post as head of Management Services. ACP Robert Mariano, the former holder of that post, will replace Phillips as Eastern Division Commander.
