Dump trucks causing problems on the roads

Posted: Saturday, March 17, 2018. 1:18 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Word has reached Breaking Belize News that there have been several incidents involving stones falling from dump trucks and causing damage to vehicles on the road.

Our newsroom was informed that the loads in the dump trucks were either uncovered or insufficiently covered, which lead to stones falling off and cracking windshields and in some cases causing dents to vehicles both incoming and behind the dump trucks.

One driver reported to BBN that she was in the vicinity of Rock View when stones from an overfilled dump truck broke her windshield. The incident caused her to run off of the road but the dump truck did not stop to render any assistance.

The Belize Police Department spoke on the issue this morning reminding all dump truck drivers and construction companies that “carrying an unsecured load” is an offence that carries a fine. The department also appealed to dump truck drivers to be considerate for the other drivers on the road, because these incidents could cause larger road traffic accidents.
