PM Barrow names two new deputy commissioners of Police

Posted: Sunday, March 18, 2018. 6:44 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Today, Prime Minister Dean Barrow informed the nation that his government will add two new deputy commissioners of police to the Police Department.

The two new deputies are Chester Williams and Edward Broaster.

Williams will have responsibility for crime fighting and operations and Broaster will be responsible for administrative duties.

Barrow says that he has appealed to the top brass of the Belize Police Department for support for the two newly promoted leaders.

Barrow also said that in their meeting today, they agreed that there must be an effort in hard serious policing which ‘can assist in interdicting the effort of gang culture in Belize City.’

According to Barrow, this strategy cannot just be a policy of brute force and ignorance since he doesn’t know if one can win a war on that basis because it inevitable entails collateral damage and confrontations with community members and police.

Barrow also said that their strategy must be one to restore trust in the Belize Police Department and among neighborhoods and citizens.
