By BBN Staff: On Monday, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett officially took office as the new Southside Commander in Belize City.

Gillett was previously the Officer Commanding Belmopan Police and is well known for his community policing strategies and community-oriented activities.

Yesterday, Gillett met with Deputy Commissioner, Chester Williams, community workers, Dianne Finnegan and Nuri Mohammed to discuss their collaboration to fight crime in the old capital.

Gillett also opened a Whatsapp group where he is inviting all residents of Southside, Belize City to collaborate in fighting crime together.

So far, Gillet has met with police officers working on Belize City streets to connect and form a good working relationship.

“ Going forward, we are looking at starting a feeding program and introduce sewing to young girls. This thing could work if we do it together,” Gillett stated.
