By BBN Staff: A Guatemalan man who was charged with manslaughter after crushing his friend with an 18-wheeler truck after he had fallen asleep underneath, was granted bail despite concerns that he might be a flight risk.
Jose Alfredo Guerra, 53, was charged with manslaughter after crushing another man near the western border a couple weeks ago. His attorney, Hurl Hamil, presented his bail petition to Justice Denis Hanomansingh. After hearing from Crown Counsel from Sherigne Rodriguez, the judge granted him bail of $5,000.
The accident happened on March 9, when Guatemalan Marcus Zabaleta was crushed and killed.
